Mail-Filters is a private company headquartered in Redwood City, California, with offices in Portland, Oregon; Salt Lake City, Utah; Las Vegas, Nevada; Orlando, Florida; London, England; and Tokyo, Japan.  Founded in October 2001 by CEO and founder Ben Westbrook, Mail-Filters shipped its first product, SpamRepellent, in March 2002. Following the successful launch of SpamRepellent, and in response to customer requests, Mail-Filters launched SpamCure in June 2002. After successfully penetrating the enterprise market space with SpamCure, Mail-Filters launched an OEM solution. With several different SDK options, the OEM solution allows companies who offer a range of solutions from small USB devices to software solutions to wireless routers to large enterprise hardware to incorporate the Mail-Filters technology and provide an industry-best anti-spam solution. Two attributes of that technology have particular appeal to OEM's: the speed with which is processes email messages, and its ability to identify spam in more than 40 languages.

In April 2005 Mail-Filters introduced SpamCure Server. This solution allows Mail-Filters' OEM partners and service providers to offer an anti-spam software solution that can reside on a dedicated server, on an email server, and/or even an end-user's PC, without any additional integration by the OEM partner. SpamCure Server is also made available on a limited basis to enterprise customers directly from Mail-Filters.

Major partners have integrated the Mail-Filters technology into their hardware and software solutions.  Through these OEM partnerships as well as Mail-Filters host SpamRepellent offering, Mail-Filters technology is currently installed in over 60,000 enterprise and service provider installations in over 120 countries.  

In response to the global dominance of Mail-Filters technology, the company opened its first international office in London, England in late 2004. Mail-Filters continued its global expansion in early 2005 when it opened an office in Tokyo, Japan.

Mail-Filters combines two proprietary weapons to catch both spam and phishing messages: the Bullet Signature Database created and maintained by both technology and human editors, and the STAR Engine that detects spammer tricks. Because the Bullet Signature Database is updated by the minute this approach allows the filter to catch new types of spam, including phishing, embedded content, HTML, and foreign language spam. The result is a consistent catch rate of more than 99% with less than 1 in 5,000,000 false positives.
